About Us

Welcome to the practice of Dr. Christine A. Semenza and Dr. Thomas F. Semenza. We are behavioral optometrists located in Old Lyme, Connecticut since 1996.

Christine A. Semenza, O.D., F.C.O.V.D.

Dr. Christine Semenza, a behavioral optometrist, is a graduate of the State University of New York College of Optometry, located in New York City. Dr. Semenza received special training in vision development in the Infant Vision and the Vision Therapy Departments of the College. She was an intern in the Optometry Department at the Gesell Institute for Human Development in New Haven, CT. She is a fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) which demonstrates advanced competency in the areas of vision development, binocular vision, visual information processing and vision therapy. She is also a member of the College of Syntonic Optometry.

Thomas F. Semenza, O.D.

Dr. Thomas Semenza, a behavioral optometrist, is also a graduate of the State University of New York College of Optometry and received advanced training in contact lenses and the treatment of eye diseases. Dr. Semenza specializes in contact lenses for children and adults, including those with presbyopia and those with irregular corneas in conditions such as keratoconus. For children and young adults, options include myopia control utilizing orthokeratology (Ortho-K). This therapy uses a specially designed contact lens worn only during sleeping hours, providing clear daytime vision without glasses or contact lenses. Dr. Semenza is a member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (AAOMC) and is certified to fit the Paragon CRT lens system for Ortho-K.

img_6080-2Meet Christina! Christina is our friendly, organized office manager.  She is an only child with two sugar gliders named Fargo and Luna. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and cruising the Caribbean! Christina studied Health Sciences with a minor in Psychology at the University of Rhode Island. Christina does everything with a smile here at the office!

img_0810Meet Dana!  Dana is lead Vision Therapist and obtained her Certification from COVD in April 2018!  Dana manages the website and social media for the office, performs visual motor exams and syntonics testing.  Dana started here in March of 2016. She graduated from UConn with a degree in Elementary Education. Dana has two boys and a dog.  Here at the office she enjoys working with patients one-on-one and having a variety of different jobs.  In her spare time, she loves being a mommy, having family time, and the beach!

Meet MaryKIMG_0816ate! MaryKate is one of our vision therapists.  MaryKate is always full of energy and makes us laugh!  She started working here in September of 2015.  She graduated from Boston University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. MaryKate has two sons; Graham and Rowan, two dogs, two cats, two goats, six chickens, one bunny, a guinea pig and a partridge in a pear tree!  Prior to working here, she worked for East Lyme Schools as an Occupational Therapist.  In her spare time, she enjoys boating, musical theater, singing, scrapbooking, crafts, painting and travel.  She also speaks Spanish!

Meet Meredith! Meredith started as a vision therapist here in February of 2017. She is a Yoga instructor when she is not doing vision therapy. Meredith manages and writes our VT Blog.  She graduated from University of Connecticut with an English degree. She is outnumbered in her house with four legged friends; two dogs, four cats and a rabbit. In her spare time, she enjoys doing yoga, hiking with her yellow lab, exploring new “foodie spots” and going to the beach. One of her greatest accomplishments has been hiking to the top of Mount Democrat in Colorado.

Meet Karen! Karen started as a vision therapist here in December of 2017. She is a mom of three boys. She graduated from Kaplan University with a Bachlor’s Degree in Human Services focusing on Child and Family . She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Development. Previous to joining us here, she taught preschool for 18 years and was a case worker at a homeless shelter working with children and families. In her spare time she enjoys playing with her boys and going to the beach. She also loves to bake and started her own baking business that she does in her spare time.
